Chinwe Chigbu
Chinwe Chigbu creates lens-based works and performance art through the manipulation of visual images, organic forms, and movement of the body. Her conceptual practice delves into themes related to spirituality, identity and femininity. Chinwe often places herself at the centre of her work, interrogating personal and shared experiences—while dismantling female stereotypes and elevating the African female experience. The visual language of her works adopt a painterly sensibility, creating a surreal sense of beauty and strangeness.
Ditiro Mashigo
Ditiro Mashigo is a textile based artist who engages with fibres and varying materials in a tactile and sensory way. The artist employs embroidery, weaving and screen printing to create abstract compositions intertwined with themes of gratitude and spirituality. Furthermore, Ditiro’s creative process is stimulated by music, most especially worship melodies which offers her solace. “My aspiration resides in eliciting emotions and forging spiritual bonds through my artistry, beckoning viewers to partake in the expression of gratitude and veneration for the divine.”, says Ditiro.
Jadesola Olaniyan
Jadesola Olaniyan is a self-taught multidisciplinary visual artist, independent curator, and anthropologist. Jadesola’s multidisciplinary practice manifests her deep affection for the natural world and personal connections to a place or time. In doing so, she mediates the symbiotic relationship between nature and humans while engaging with themes of human consciousness, memory, identity, spirituality, mortality and existence.
Victoria Makinde
Victoria Makinde primarily works with oil paints, and red appears as the dominant colour in her paintings as a connotation to love. Her paintings are animated with female subjects in solemn states which are open to interpretation and a call to self-introspection. Victoria’s practice serves as a visual journal and creative outlet to make meaning of personal life experiences as well as reverse traumatic ordeals.
Yasser Claud-Ennin
Yasssr Claud-Ennin is a multidisciplinary artist who primarily works with oil paint rendered on traditional Nigerian and Ghanaian textiles. For the artist, fabrics such as Aso-Oke, Kente, Adire and Ankara serve as a backdrop to reflect on his multicultural heritage, and engage with themes related to identity, culture and spirituality. His works are animated with nostalgic memories while inviting audiences to contemplate on the intricacies around navigating place and belonging.
